Medallions: Ch 13, turn. 1^st row: D c in 7^th ch from hook. * Ch 1, skip 1 st, d c in next, repeat from * 2 more times. Ch 4, turn. 2^nd row: D c in d c of row below, * ch 1, d c in next d c, and repeat from * 2 more times, making last d c in turning ch. Ch 4, turn. 3^rd and 4^th rows: Same as 2^nd. From here on, work around. 1^st rnd: 2 s c under sp around, making an extra s c at each corner. 2^nd round: S c in each s c around, making 2 s c in each corner s c. 3^rd rnd: S c in each s c, and at corners make 2 s c in each 2 sts.

4^th rnd: S c to center of 1^st side, then ch 10, join with sl st to base of ch to form ring. Without turning work over, making into ring 3 s c, * ch 3 (for a picot), 3 s c, repeat from * 2 more times. Continue making s c’s around, making a ring at the center of each side. Place mats: (4) Sew 4 medallions in a strip. Attach thread at one corner, and working along the side of the strip, ch 5, skip 1 st, d c in next, * ch 1, skip 1 st, d c in next. Repeat from * across. CH 5, turn. 2^nd row: * D c in next d c, ch 1, repeat from * acroh 5, turn. Repeat 2^nd row 27 more times. Sew a strip of medallions across end and finish around entire piece with 4 s c, ch 3 picot, worked in loops of medallions and in sps at sides.

Center mat: Worj same as place mats, using 2 strips of medallions at ends. Make 60 rows of sps for center section. Finish around entire piece as before.

Next 2 rows drop the last 2 loops. Next row drop the first and last 2 loops. Next row work to center of back, ch 6, turn and work even until work measures 7 inches from underarm. Next 7 rows decrease 1 inch of pattern for shoulder, work back to center, break thread and work other side to correspond.

Front- Work first 7 rows same as back. Next row, work 3 shells, increase, * 2 shells increase, repeat from * twice, work 3 shells, increase and finish row. Continue even until work measures 9 inches from beginning. Decrease for armhole same as back.

Work 8 rows of pattern and one row more row of loops. Next row increase after 5^th shell. Continue even until front is the same length as the back. Decrease shoulders. Sew underarm and shoulder seams.

Cap sleeves – join thread 2 inches from shoulder seam, and work a row of shells 4 inches over shoulder, ch 3 turn, work across row and work 2 loops beyond preceding row. Continue sleeve always adding 2 loops at end of row until underarm is reached and work 1 row of shells all around. Work other sleeve to correspond.

Skirt – Work a row of shells into loops at lower edge of blouse. Work next row even.

Next row- Increase 1 shell in center front and back. Continue even until skirt measures 2 ½ inches from beginning. Next row work 4 shells, increase, work 8 shells, increase continue row increasing 2 more shells about the same distance apart. Work 3 inches even. Sew buttons in position using loops for button holes. If dress is worn open at the back slip the buttons through the loops thus bringing them to the right side.

Belt – With white ch 8, d c in 4^th st from hook, 1 d c in each st.

2^nd row – Ch 3, 1 d c in each d c, repeat 2^nd row until work measures about 3 inches more than size of the belt required. Work another hand in white and one in the color used for dress. Braid the three bands together keeping them flat and tacking them together at intervals. Sew ends and attach buckle.

Materials Required: American Thread Company “Deluxe” Crochet and Knitting Cotton, 3 Balls, White, Ecru or Colors. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8. Flat Double Buckle. Neck Band, Ch 11, s c in 2^nd st from hook, 1 s c in each st.

2^nd row – Ch 1, 1 s c in each s c. Repeat the last row for 15 inches or the length required. The cape is made in the spider web shell stitch ( see directions for dress ) Ch 5, working into side of neck band, skip 3 rows of s c, s c in next row, repeat to end of band, ch 6, turn, work a row of shells and work 5 more rows of design.

6^th row- Increase 2 shells ( directions for increase are given in dress instructions ) and work 5 rows even.

14^th row – Increase 2 shells taking care not to place increases over the last increases. Work 3 rows even.

18^th row – Increase 2 shells and work 3 rows even. Continue work, increasing 2 shells in the 22^nd, 24^th, 32^nd, 34^th, 36^th, 40^th, 42^nd, 44^th, 46^th, 48^th, 52^nd, 56^th, 60^th, 66^th, 68^th rows and work 3 rows even, break thread and attach buckle.

Material: (Size 9 ½.) 1 pr. # 1 needles–14-inch. 1 pr. # 3 needles-14-inch. 1 set # 1 double-pointed needles 7-inch. 3 ½-oz. balls 2-fold stocking yarn.
(Note: I did some poking around and discovered that it is a fingering weight and 2 fold is using 2 strands at time. )

Gauge: 8 sts. to 1 inch. 2 rows to 1 inch.
The stockings are regulation medium length. The length before wearing (i.e., after knitting is completed) is approximately 17 ½ inches from top of stocking to top of heel. The length when on the leg is approximately 24 inches.

Pattern. Multiple of 3 sts. plus 2.
Row 1: K 1,* y.o., slip 1, K2tog., repeat from * across Row, ending K 1.
Repeat Row 1 for pattern.
With a double strand of yarn and #1 needles, cast on 88 sts. Work even in K l, P 1 ribbing for 2 ½ inches. Next Row, increase 1 st. (89 sts.). Break one strand of yarn, change to #3 needles and work even in pattern for 10 inches.

Working on all sts., decrease 1 st. after first marker and before 2nd marker every other Row until there are 8 sts. between markers. Fold heel at center back and weave first 10 sts. to last 10 sts.

With double-point needles and a double strand of yarn, pick up 50 sts, around heel and work back and forth in stockinette st. for 4 inches. In crease 1 st. each side every other Row 7 times (54 sts.).

Place these sts. on a st. holder.

Slip sts. of instep from st. holder and with single strand of yarn and #3 needles, work even in pattern for 1 inch.

Decrease 1 st. each side every 5th Row 7 times (21 sts.). Work even until instep is as long as sole.

Next Row, increase as follows: K 2, increase 1 st., * K 3, increase 1 st., repeat from * 3 times more, K 2 (96 sts.). Join with 54 sole sts. on double point needles.

With double strand of yarn work around on all sts., dividing sts. as follows: 40 center sts. of sole on first needle; 7 increased sts. and first 13 instep sts. on 2nd needle; remaining 13 instep sts. and 7 increased sts. on 3rd needle.

FLOWER MOTIF: Starting at center with Mid Rose, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1ST RND: Ch 5, (dc in ring, ch 2) 7 times. Join to 3rd ch of ch-5 (8 sps). 2ND RND: In each sp around make sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc and sc. Join. 3RD RND: * Ch 4, sc between next 2 petals. Repeat from * around. Join. 4TH RND: In each loop around make sc, half dc, 5 dc, half dc and sc. Join. 5TH RND: Repeat 3rd rnd. 6TH RND: In each loop around make sc, half dc, 7 dc, half dc and sc. Join. 7TH RND: Repeat 3rd rnd. 8TH RND: In each loop around make sc, half dc, dc, 7 tr, dc, half dc and sc. Join and break off. 9TH RND: Attach Hunter’s green to center tr of any petal, sc in same place, * ch 7, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 3 tr in center tr of next petal, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), ch 4, in same tr make 3-d tr cluster, ch 4 and 3-tr cluster; ch 7, sc in center tr of next petal. Join and break off. 10TH RND: Attach White to any 3-d tr cluster, ch 3, 2 dc in same place, * ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, (ch 1, in next sp make 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc) twice; ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, in tip of next cluster make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in same place as first 2 dc, ch 1, dc in top of ch-3.
11TH TO 14TH RNDS INCL: Ch 3, 2 dc in sp just formed, * ch 1, 3 dc in next sp. Repeat from * around, making 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc in ch-3 sp at each corner. Join as before. Break off at end of 14th rnd.
PLAIN MOTIF: Starting at center with White, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1ST RND: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 3, 3 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 1, half dc in top of starting chain. 2ND RND: Ch 3, dc in sp just formed, * dc in next 3 dc, in next sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 dc in same place as first dc, ch 1, half dc in top of starting chain. 3RD TO 9TH RNDS INCL: Ch 3, dc in sp just formed, * dc in each dc across to corner, in corner sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before. 10TH RND: Ch 3, 2 dc in sp just formed, * (ch 1, skip 3 dc, make 3 dc in next dc) twice; (ch 1, skip 2 dc, make 3 dc in next dc) 8 times; ch 1, in corner sp make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in same place as first 2 dc, ch 3. Join and break off.
For a single size spread, make 77 flower motifs and 76 plain motifs.

For double size spread make 94 flower motifs and 93 plain motifs.

Sew motifs neatly together, alternating flower and plain motifs and making 9 rows of 17 motifs for single spread and 11 rows of 17 for double spread.
FRINGE: Cut 10 strands of white, each 12″ long. Double these strands to form a loop. Insert hook in first sp on one long side of bedspread and draw loop through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull up tightly to form a knot. Make a fringe in each sp around two long sides and one short side. Trim ends evenly.
