Crochet This Girls Dress – circa 1940
Crochet this great dress for your little girl…and hers! Originally published in the 1940’

(SIZES 4-6)
MATERIALS REQUIRED: American Thread Company “De Luxe” or “Gem” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or “Star” Crochet Cord 4 Balls White, Ecru or Colors. Steel Crochet Hook No.8
Six Small Pearl Buttons.
To Begin:
Chain 125 stitches, 1 sc in 2nd stitch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 24 sts, (1st half of back) 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sts, (shoulder) 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 50 sts (front) 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sts (shoulder) 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the last 25 sts. (back).
Continue yoke working 3 sts in center st of each increasing point, work 3 more rows of sc, 3 rows of dc, 4 rows sc, 3 rows dc, 1 row sc.
Next row: work on back of yoke only increase 1 st each row at underarm and work other side even, 3 rows sc, 3 rows dc, 4 rows sc, break thread.
Front of Yoke:
Work same as back increasing one stitch each
side of yoke, when last row is completed, ch 15 and sl st into last row of back of yoke (This forms the armhole).
Work 2nd half of back joining to front of yoke to form other armhole.
Break thread, join the back at lower edge with a sl st and work one row of sc around entire yoke.
Next row:
Begin *Knot Stitch, (draw a 1/4 inch loop on hook thread over and pull through chain, sc in single loop of stitch, draw another 1/4 inch loop, sc into loop) skip 1 sc, sc in next st, repeat from * 3 times, 1 Knot Stitch, sc in next sc and repeat from beginning all around.
2nd row: 1 Knot Stitch, sc in center of Knot Stitch of previous row. Repeat 2nd row 38 times or until dress is the desired length.
Yoke Ruffle:
Work a row of sc into the 8th row of yoke.
2nd row: Work a Knot Stitch into every other sc and work 14 more rows of Knot Stitches. Across right side of back work a row of 5 ch loops with 3 sc between each loop for buttonholes. Finish neck of dress with a row sc working a 3 ch picot after every third st.
The dress may also be made in “Silkine” or “Star” Pearl Cotton, Size 5.
