PROMENADE – - Fashion’s Newest Creation In Crochet
Materials Required: American Thread Company “Deluxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton. 13 Balls, White, Ecru or Colors.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 8-10 Small Pearl Buttons, 1 Buckle.
Gauge: 1 shell st = 1 inch. 2 Shell rows = 1 inch.
Beginning work at waistline, ch 170, for back of blouse, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, * ch 3, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st repeat from * to end of row.
2nd row – Ch 6, s c in 1st loop, * ch 2, skip 1 loop, 1 tr c in next loop, ch 2, 1 tr c in same loop, ch 2, 1 tr c in same loop, ch 2, skip 1 loop, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from *13 times ending with 1 s c, ch 6 turn.
3rd row- 1 s c in 1st loop * ch 3, 1 s c in next loop., repeat from across row, ch 6 to turn each even row.
4th row- 1 tr c in 1st loop, ch 2, 1 tr c in same loop, * ch 2 skip 1 loop, 1 s c in next loop, ch 2, skip 1 loop, 1 tr c in next loop, ch 2, 1 tr c in same loop, ch 2, 1 tr c in same loop, repeat fom * across row ending with 3 tr c.
5th row – 1 s c in 1st loop, * ch 3, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * across row. The last 4 rows from the spider web pattern which is allowed throughout the dress and cape, always work spider web shells between shells of previous shell row, except at increases. Work 2 rows even.
Next 2 rows drop the last 2 loops. Next row drop the first and last 2 loops. Next row work to center of back, ch 6, turn and work even until work measures 7 inches from underarm. Next 7 rows decrease 1 inch of pattern for shoulder, work back to center, break thread and work other side to correspond.
Front- Work first 7 rows same as back. Next row, work 3 shells, increase, * 2 shells increase, repeat from * twice, work 3 shells, increase and finish row. Continue even until work measures 9 inches from beginning. Decrease for armhole same as back.
Work 8 rows of pattern and one row more row of loops. Next row increase after 5th shell. Continue even until front is the same length as the back. Decrease shoulders. Sew underarm and shoulder seams.
Cap sleeves – join thread 2 inches from shoulder seam, and work a row of shells 4 inches over shoulder, ch 3 turn, work across row and work 2 loops beyond preceding row. Continue sleeve always adding 2 loops at end of row until underarm is reached and work 1 row of shells all around. Work other sleeve to correspond.
Skirt – Work a row of shells into loops at lower edge of blouse. Work next row even.
Next row- Increase 1 shell in center front and back. Continue even until skirt measures 2 ½ inches from beginning. Next row work 4 shells, increase, work 8 shells, increase continue row increasing 2 more shells about the same distance apart. Work 3 inches even. Next row increase 4 shells spacing the increases evenly in row. Work 5 inches even. Increase 4 shells. Work 5 ½ inches, increase 4 shells and work 6 inches even. Increase 4 shells and work 3 ½ inches even. Increase 2 shells and work even until dress is correct length. At opening of back of blouse work 1 row of s c, 2nd row. * Ch 4, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, repeat from * on both sides of opening.
Sew buttons in position using loops for button holes. If dress is worn open at the back slip the buttons through the loops thus bringing them to the right side.
Belt – With white ch 8, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each st.
2nd row – Ch 3, 1 d c in each d c, repeat 2nd row until work measures about 3 inches more than size of the belt required. Work another hand in white and one in the color used for dress. Braid the three bands together keeping them flat and tacking them together at intervals. Sew ends and attach buckle.
Crocheted Cape No. 72
Materials Required: American Thread Company “Deluxe” Crochet and Knitting Cotton, 3 Balls, White, Ecru or Colors. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8. Flat Double Buckle. Neck Band, Ch 11, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each st.
2nd row – Ch 1, 1 s c in each s c. Repeat the last row for 15 inches or the length required. The cape is made in the spider web shell stitch ( see directions for dress ) Ch 5, working into side of neck band, skip 3 rows of s c, s c in next row, repeat to end of band, ch 6, turn, work a row of shells and work 5 more rows of design.
6th row- Increase 2 shells ( directions for increase are given in dress instructions ) and work 5 rows even.
14th row – Increase 2 shells taking care not to place increases over the last increases. Work 3 rows even.
18th row – Increase 2 shells and work 3 rows even. Continue work, increasing 2 shells in the 22nd, 24th, 32nd, 34th, 36th, 40th, 42nd, 44th, 46th, 48th, 52nd, 56th, 60th, 66th, 68th rows and work 3 rows even, break thread and attach buckle.
Crocheted Hat No. 73
Head size 21-22 inches
Materials Required: American Thread Company “Deluxe” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, 2 Balls, White, Ecru or Colors. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8 and 6.
With No. 8 Hook Ch 6, join, Ch 3, 12 d c in ring, join each row and start each row with ch 3, which counts as one d c.
2nd row – 2 d c in each st (26sts)
3rd row – 1 d c in each of the first 2 d c, * Ch 1, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, repeat from * all around.
4th row- 1 d c in each d c with 2 chs between each group.
5th row- 2 d c in first d c, 1 d c in next d c, ch 3, repeat from beginning all around.
6th row – 1 d c in each d c with 3 chs between groups.
7th row- Increase 1 d c in each group and 1 st in each ch.
8th row- work even.
Repeat 7th and 8th rows until hat is correct head size and work even until crown measures 6 inches from center. Next row 1 d c in each d c and 5 d c in each ch.
Brim – with double thread and No. 6 Hook work 1 s c in each d c. Work 8 more rows of s c. Next row increase one st in every 10th st and work 2 more rows even. If wider brim is desired continue rows of s c. Form a half inch pleat at top of hat and trim with ornament if desired.
An asterisk (*) indicates that the directions immediately following are to be repeated the given number of times in addition to the ones already given. Thus “repeat from * 3 times” means 4 patterns in all. An even row means work row without increasing or decreasing.
