Materials: Clark’s O.N.T Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 3 balls of color 88 Peach. Milward’s steel crochet hook No. 3 and Milward’s Casein hook No. 3 ( or standard size bone hook ). 12 glass or pearl buttons about one inch in diameter.
Back: With steel hook, starting at waistband, ch 122 ( or slightly more than half your waist measure with a number sts divisible by 6, plus 2 sts for turning ) . 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook. * Ch 1, skip 1 st of foundation ch, 1 s c in next. Repeat from * along ch. Ch 2 turn. 2nd to 27th rows incl: 1 s c under ch-1 or previous row. * * Ch 1, 1 s c under next ch-1. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. At end of 27th row, change to Casein hook, ch 3, turn. 28th row: Kip 1st ch-1, 3 d c under next ch-1, ch 3, 1 s c in same place. Repeat from * across (20 designs). Ch 3, turn. 29th row: 3 d c under ch-3 of 1st design, ch 3, s c in same place. * 3 d c under ch-3 of next design, ch 3, s c in same place. Repeat from * across, ch 3, turn.
Repeat 29th row until work measures 9 inches from top of waistband. Then to make sleeve, ch 34, turn and work design in 3rd ch from hook. * Skip 3 sts of ch, work design in next. Repeat from * along ch, then continue across, working design over design. Drop thread. Fasten another thread to end of row, ch 32, fasten off. Pick up dropped thread and work designs over this ch to correspond to other sleeve, ch 3, turn. Continue until work measures 15 inches from top of waistband. S c across top and fasten off. Sew 5 buttons on each shoulder seam, leaving about 8 inches across the center for back of neckline.
Front: With steel hook, ch 140. Work waistband same as back. On 27th row decrease 1 st every 10th st. Change to Casein hook, ch 3, turn. Repeat directions for back. ( There wll be 21 patterns, instead of 20 patterns ). S c across top, make 5 ch-loops on shoulder seams, leaving waistband open at left side. Sew 2 buttons on band and make ch-loops on front of band to correspond.
