Crocheted Gloves — “To Complete the Ensemble”


Note: Some materials required may no longer be available. You will need to substitute with materials of your choice.

Shell Stitch Glove no. 70
Materials: Article 102 “Silkateen” “Sansilk” 5 Balls, No. 100 White, No. 1 Cream,
No. 2 Lt. Ecru or Colors. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8.

Ch 80 for wrist join. Ch 5, skip3 sts, 1 s c in next st, repeat ti end of row ( 19 loops).
2nd row- Ch 3, 5 d c in next loop, ch 3, 1 s c in next loop, repeat all around (10 shells).

3rd row- Ch 5, s c in center of shell, ch 5 in next s c, repeat all around ( 19 loops).

4th row – Ch 5, s c in loop, repeat all around ( 19 loops)

5th row- Repeat shell row working shells between shells of preceding shell row ( 10 shells). The last 3 rows form the pattern which is followed through out the glove. Continue work for 7 more rows.

13th row – Ch 30, skip 4 loops, s c in next loop (this forms the opening for the thumb), work a row of loops, ch 5, skip 2 sts of thumb ch, s c in next st * Ch 5 skip 4 sts of ch, s c in next st, repeat from * 4 times ch 5, s c in loop (20 loops).

Work 8 more rows of pattern ending row at left of opening.

Fingers – Left hand – Fold work having the thumb opening at extreme left and work finger directly over thumb. Work 3 loops over back of glove, ch 5, s c in 4th loop on palm side of glove leaving 6 free loops, ch 5, s c in center st of ch between fingers, ch 5 in next free loop (7 loops). Work 8 rows of pattern, 1 row of 4 ch loops, 1 row of shells, with 4 d c in each shell, 2 rows of 3 ch loops, 1 row of shells with 4 d c in each shell, and 2 ch bet. Each s c, 1 row of 3 ch loops, ch 2, 1 d c in each loop, draw stitches together to close space fasten and break thread.

Middle finger – Join thread to bottom of forefinger on back of glove, work 3 loops, ch 5, s c in 2nd free loop on palm side of glove, work 1 loop, ch 5, s c in first loop between fingers, ch 5, s c in next loop between fingers, ch 5 s c in center st of ch between fingers, ch 5, s cin next free loop (7loops). Work 11 rows pattern and finish same as first finger.

Third finger – Work 3 loops on back of glove, ch 5, s c in 2nd free loop on palm of glove and work same as first finger.

Little finger- 6 rows of pattern and finish same as first finger.

Thumb – Work eleven 5 ch loops, 2 more rows of pattern. Next row * work 3 loops, s c in next loop omitting loop between, repeat from * twice (decreasing 3 loops). Work 5 more rows of pattern. Next row, decrease 1 loop inside of thumb, work 1 row of pattern. Next 6 rows of pattern work 3 ch between each s c, 4 d c in each shell and 4 chs in each loop row. 2 rows of 3 ch loops and 1 d c in each loop.

Joining thread to beginning of glove, work 1 row of loops and continue pattern for 21 rows. Next shell row work 4 ch between each s c, 2 rows of loops.

Next 9 rows of pattern work 6 chs in each loop row and 4 chs between each s c , finish glove with 1 row of s c.
Work other glove to correspond reversing the position of the thumb.
Iridescent shade No. 70 Light shading and No. 72 Dark Shading will make very attractive gloves. The varied colors will blend with either a light or dark ensemble.

These gloves can also be made of Six Cord Mercerized Crochet Cotton. We recommend sizes 20 or 30 in Art 10 “Star” Crochet Cotton or Art 30 “Silkine” Crochet Cotton or “Star” Pearl Cotton Size 8 in White, Ecru or Colors.
