Crocheted Dress no.78 – - Size 16


Note: Some materials required may no longer be available. You will need to substitute with materials of your choice.

MATERIALS REQUIRED. American Thread Company “ Deluxe” or “Gem” Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton , White Ecru or Colors.
“Deluxe” Crochet and Knitting Cotton 21-250-yd. Balls or 53-100-yd. Balls and 1 Ball of contrasting Color.
1 Ball of Contrasting Color.
“Gem” Crochet Cotton 26-200yd. Balls of Main Color and 1 Ball of Contrasting Color.
Steel Crochet Hook #6
8 Buttons and a Belt
Gauge Skirt – 17sts – 2 inches 10 rows – 2 inches
Blouse- 5sts – 1 inch 11 rows – 2 inches
The Model illustrated is worked in Shade #11 Dk
Green trimmed with Shade #24

Skirt

Ch 212 and work 211 s c on ch, ch 2 and work 1 more row of s c.
3rd row. Ch 3, 1 d c in each s c
4th row. Ch 2, 1 s c in each d c. Repeat the last 2 rows for entire skirt. Work 4 ½ inches even.
Next Row. *decrease 1 st each side and work 1 inch even, repeat from *5 times
Next 116 Rows, decrease 1 st side of every 4th row and work even until skirt measures 32 inches or is desired length. Work a second panel and sew seams matching rows. Crochet beading at top for elastic.

Blouse

BACK. Ch 126 and work 125 s c on ch.
1st Row of Pattern. Ch 2, insert hook in next st and work off 2 loops on hook same in d c (thread over, through one loop, thread over, through 2nd loop) *Ch 1, skip 1 s c, long s c in next s c in next st, repeat from *across row.
2nd row. Ch 2, * long s c in ch between sts of previous row, ch 1, repeat from * for entire row and repeat 2nd row for entire blouse. Work 3 more rows even.
6th Row. *Increase 1 st each side and work 5 rows even, repeat from *4 times.
36th Row. Increase 1 st each side and work 2 rows even.
39th Row. Decrease 2 sts each side.
40th Row. Decrease 1 st each side, work 2 rows even.
43rd Row. * Decrease 1 st each side, work 1 row even, repeat from *twice.
57th Row. * Decrease 1 st each side, work 4 rows even, repeat from *twice
72nd Row. * Decrease 1 st each side, work 1 row even, repeat from * 4 times
82nd to 89th Rows. Decrease 1 st each side, work 1 row even, break thread
FRONT. Ch 79 and work 78 sc on ch the continue in long s c working sts of 1st row in every other st. Work 4 rows even
5th Row. * Increase 1 st at beginning of row, work 5 rows even, repeat from * 3 times.
29th Row. Increase 1 st at beginning of row, work 14 rows even.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 2 sts at armhole. Work 1 row even.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 1 st at armhole. Work 1 row even.
Next Row. * Decrease 1 st armhole, work 1 row even repeat from * 8 times.
Next 2 Rows. * Decrease 1 st each side.
70th Row. Decrease at armhole, repeat from *.
74th to 85th Rows. Decrease 1 st each side at armhole and every other row at neck side. Work other front to correspond.
BACK PEPLUM. Ch 126 and work 125 s c on ch.
2nd Row. 1 long s c in every other st.
3rd Row. * Increase 1 st each side and work 4 rows even, repeat from *3 times.
Next 12 rows. Increase 2 sts in every 4th row taking care not to have increases over last increases.
FRONT PEPLUM. Left side. Ch 63 and work 62 s c on ch.
Work 8 rows even. * Increase 1 st at end of row, work 3 rows even. Repeat from *twice. Next Row. Decrease 1 st at front edge and increase 1 st at seam edge. Work 4 rows even.
Next Row. Decrease 1 st at front edge and increase 1 st at seam edge, work 2 rows even. Next 3 Rows. Decrease 1 st at front edge of each row. Work other iront peplum to correspond.
SLEEVES. Ch 70 and work 69 s c in ch.
Work 5 rows of long s c even. Next Row. * Increase 1 st each side and work 5 rows even. Repeat from *15 times.
Next 2 Rows decrease 3 sts each side. Next 44 Rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of each row. Work other sleeve correspond.
COLLAR. Ch 162 and work 161 s c on ch. Next Row. Begin pattern, * increase 3 sts in row spacing them evenly, work 1 row even and repeat from * taking care not to place increases over last increases. Next Row. Increase 1 st each side. Next Row. * increase 3 sts in row and work 1 row even . Repeat from *4 times and work 1 more row even.
THE TRIM is worked in shell st. LEFT FRONT. Join Green in first even row at neck, * ch 3 2 d c in same space, skip 1 row of front of blouse, s c in next row, repeat from * across front.
2nd Row. Ch 3, 2 d c in same spaces, s c in ch of shell in previous row, repeat to end of row. Work 7 more rows of shells.
RIGHT FRONT. Work 1 row of shells in Brown, 2 rows Green, 1 row Brown, 2 rows Green. Next row work buttonholes. Beginning at neck, ch 3, s c in 1st shell, * ch 7, skip 1 shell s c in next shell, work 2 shells, repeat from *7 times and work shells to end of row. Work 2 rows Green, 1 row Brown.
Around Collar and lower edge of sleeves, 1 row of shells in Brown and 1 row in Green.
Sew Peplum together and around lower edge and fronts work 1 row of shells in Brown, 2 rows Green, 1 row Brown, 2 rows Green.
Sew Sleeves in position, sew underarms, crochet 2 rows of s c around neck drawing it in to fit, attach collar and peplum and finish with buttons and Belt. This dress may also be made in “Star” Crochet Cord or “Silkine” Pearl Cotton size 5.
